RESEARCH ORGANIZATION
Research activities are
grouped into projects and sub-projects. The classification is based on
scientific discipline. The research projects are usually organized across
the disciplines. This supports the aim of research management to achieve
the maximum flexibility in organizing multi-disciplinary research groups
in order to cope with some specific research problems.
The research organization can
be illustrated in a framework(Figure
1). The Suphan Buri FCRC Research Working Group is a multi-disciplinary
research group, comprised of several disciplinary research teams :breeding,
agronomy, plant protection, seed technology and administration. The Working
Group plays a major role in research management.
From 1990 the direction of
applied research has been based largely on grower's needs. On the other hand,
basic and strategic researches have to be considered as it provides essential
information for applied research that serves the grower's needs. In addition,
urgent needs and special projects, such as royal projects or international
projects have been proposed occasionally.
A number of projects and
sub-projects are proposed for the consideration each year. The project
reviewing will be done through the Research Working Group emphasizing an
interdisciplinary research approach in order to solve particular problems
in quick and efficiently maner. In some cases, collaborative research between
scientists working in the same discipline, but in different institutes, has
been performed to solve specific problems.
The projects and sub-projects
are first reviewed for technical advice by the Suphan Buri FCRC Technical
Committee, comprised of the directorof FCRI and specialists from various
research teams. Finally, the projects and sub-projects are submitted to FCRI
Research Committee for technical, policy and financial adjustments and advice.
The committee members are the Director of FCRI, the Directors of FCRC, the
field crop specialists and chiefs of the sections (administration, training
and monitoring and evaluation).
Then, the approved projects can
be conducted, and the results will be reported annually through presentation
at the FCRI annual meeting, crop research working group meetings, and the DOA
annual meetings. The national and international meetings or conferences are
also included. The results obtained from the projects will be published in the
Suphan Buri FCRC Annual Reports. Information which is relevant to farmers and
growers has been fed back to them, directly or indirectly, by various media.
