LOCATION AND GEOGRAPHY

U-Thong Field Crops Experiment Station was established in 1965. It was renamed as Suphan Buri Field Crops Research Center after the re-organization of the Department of Agriculture in 1982.

The center is located on Highway 324 (Suphan Buri - Kanchanaburi) opposite Mount Wongpart in Moo 10 village, Tambon Jorakae Samphan, Amphoe U-Thong, Suphan Buri Province (latitude of 14 18' N, longitude of 99 51' E, altitude about 7 meters asl) as shown in picture.

The center is divided into 2 sites. The main site or office site is surrounded by the area of 24 ha. Another site is at Rangpho, 5 km west of the main site (Kanchanaburi Province direction). The area of this site is about 40 ha. Besides these 2 sites, the area of about 16 ha has been rented every year from the farmer. It is 5 km far from the main site in the direction to Amphoe Maung, Suphan Buri province. Thus, the total area of 80 ha has been used annually for field crop experiments including breeding works.

The center has a responsibility for mandated crops (sorghum and sugarcane) and other field crops grown not only in the Suphan Buri Province area, but also in the seven neighboring provinces which are Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Prachuab Kiri Khan, Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi, Samutsongkram and Samutsakhon.
