Jay Anderson: Portfolio #5 "Studies in Shape and Form"

This project started in late 1996 Instead of using a white background and indirect backlighting for photographing glassware I started using a black background and large diffuse light sources on each side. The subject of the resulting images became the reflections of the light sources instead of the glassware. This series which I titled "Reflections" began to be accepted into juried exhibits and to sell a few prints.

Following one exhibition where the work was shown I was invited to submit slides of this type of work for the, then upcoming, Washington Center for Photography (WCP) "Sensuality Show." At the same time as this invitation I began to move in and make abstract close ups of the glassware. These abstract close ups did become pure studies in shape and form.  They are more interesting and sensual than the more distant views of the same glassware..

Eight of the images from the "Shape and Form" were exhibited at the factory photoworks gallery, Torpedo Factory Art Center, Old Town Alexandria, VA,   from March 3 - April 5, 1998.  The series continues to grow and now includes over forty images.
