10 Ha-Arba'a st. Tel Aviv 03-5628868 R Open 24 hours a day Atmosphere & Design - Orange, yellow and red tables, jazzy music, darkish atmosphere - All in all, rather New Yorkish I think. Sitting there felt like being teleported to the middle of a Woody Allen film. But worst (details further on) this place is WEIRD !! And oh - the forks have the longest teeth I have ever seen. What's the deal with that? Service - In one word? it's WEIRD. Our waitress was so unbelievably weird she kept saying terrible stuff by mistake (like commenting on the chef being oh sooooo slow and service being bad, not to mention the time she almost shouted on my partner for looking at the menu trying to decide on a cocktail. Scared the hell out of him I might add..) and the worst is yet to come. Price - 314 NS not including tip for two cocktails, one first course and two main ones plus two desserts and one coffee. Recommended dish - Like, hello ?! This place's nicest thing is the bread basket (yes you guessed it, it's also weird. But - in a good way). They have all sorts of bread sticks, little crunchy pizza cracker thingies, parmesan and herbs muffins and nice warm olive bread. But even here they must ruin everything - it costs 16 NS and is not enough for two hungry people. The sweet potato gnocchi in caramel and chicken liver sauce with broccoli, tasted great at first, but after four more bites felt so terribly heavy in my stomach I thought I would explode right there and then. The desserts - Peanut butter tarrin, peanut butter and banana ice cream had almost no taste at all. My partner's fruit salad was ok. Be especially careful of the local cocktails, ranging from weak (frozen apple sour) to plain bizarre (amaretto sour, combining the taste of sweet and bitter almonds with lemon and other unearthly elements). The most horrible thing was that my partner, once having a sip of his amaretto cocktail, became strange himself. We are certain the alcohol amounts (about 0.5% of the entire glass in my opinion) had nothing to do with it. The man just was not himself for the next hour or so laughing oddly and laying helplessly on his sit while giggling like a 13 year old girl. The next reasonable thing to happen being a pink elephant coming out of the kitchen in a chef's suite complaining the air condition had gone off or something. But... Sagi and Heli loved the place. I must add
though, that they didn't have any of the things we did but only had desserts
and coffee after a movie.
Maybe you can tell me your opinion.. After a return visit... I decided the place indeed is strange as hell, but the food was ruther good and the service was much better. hmm.. My chicken confy with spring rolls stuck in it was designed beautifully, but was a bit to fat and heavy for me. We had the special chocolate dessert and the "regulr" chocoate desserts who were both reach, tasteful and all in all - great. The bread basket was missing the great little muffins which was a great disappointment. All in all, dinner was much fun and I have to change my review to a shining |

70 King George St. Tel Aviv 03-6295318 R Deliveries 03-5252399 Atmosphere & Design - Now moved to the old "Ooh la la!" location, it is less homey than it used to be, but still friendly and much much fun for little groups. Lots of tables ensure you will find a place to sit at all times. Service - Courteous and gracious. Price - At about 100 NS per person you would make little happy sounds all the way home, this including desserts, saki and green tea. They also have all sorts of business meals ranging from 29 NS (for noodles, soft drinks and dessert) to 100 NS (for a couples dim sum combination). Recommended dish - Hmm.. let's think. Nice hand made noodles in all sorts of combination with different meats. As for dim sums, I love the shu mai (open dough) filled with spinach and peanuts, everything with shrimp in it and all puffy bau puffs (steamed filed yeast dough). I like the steamed dim sums rather then the fried ones. Ooh, I also love the saki and plum wines. In conclusion... Cool cool cool. We went there again for our independence day celebration with the all knowing Noam L. plus it is one of the greatest take away's in Tel Aviv. |
34 Ha-Barzel st. Tel Aviv 03-6969381 RC * Hello colleagues! * Service - The "Ha-Barzel" branch keeps a courteous and smiley attitude even at the crowdest lunch hours when hounded of hungry hi tech employees swamp the place with their trembling coupons. Price - Coupons get you a light lunch, salad or antipasti, lemonade and piece of cake. Recommended dish - The fuccacha with kabbab in yogurt sauce is great. They usually have good pizzetas and I am told the pasta is also good. The earl grey tea cake is yummy as well as the pumpkin cake with walnuts and raisins. If you are buying to take home - take the plum and chocolate rich cake. Oh mama! They also have a wonderful feta cheese. In conclusion... Nice enough. I also have to check the Herzelia branch, which I am told had become a very classy restaurant. |

27 Montifiory st. Tel Aviv 03-5283255 R Atmosphere & Design - "French inspired Japanese food" (or was it the other way around?). Nice looking from both the inside and out. Big tables, big bar, big menus. Service - They have something to learn in this field I think. Not very fast, not very helpful, not very nice. Price - Expensive: 428 NS for soft drinks, saki, martini cocktails, first, main and last courses and warm drinks. Recommended dish - Dennis filet and risotto, banana roll dessert. In conclusion... Simply not worth it. I hear it used to be great before Mika left to Docsa (better go to Docsa..) now it's plain outrages. |
