Thinking, Writing, And Wondering
One might call this a mission statement of sorts. Perhaps a reason for being, or a point of view of a kind. Thought and emotion and art, are my reasons for being, or the directions from which I view the universe. People are concerned with all kinds of things, and have all kinds of emphases in their lives - and these are the things that matter most to me.
I have a lot of ideas and theories - I have developed a wide and varied set of philosophic ideas, which are continually in the process of evolution and change. I do not think there are necessarily any "correct" answers to the great questions of human existence - there are only ideas, viewpoints - and it is, to me, important to continue to examine new ideas, new points of view, and to try to understand these things in the light of what we already believe or think we know. In this way, it is possible to gain an understanding of things, and to develop an idea of what we are actually inclined to believe in or support - philosophically or otherwise.
Below I list a series of ideas that constitute the foundation of my own sytstem of beliefs - my own personal philosophy, if you will. These ideas have worked their way into my mind after long and exhaustive thought, contemplation, and examination, and not without an awful lot of internal conflict. Again, I think it is foolish to latch onto any new philosophical idea - or to blindly follow an old one - without rigorously challenging and examining such an idea.
Some of my basic ideas:
- All viewpoints are essentially subjective - it is through ourselves that we experience the universe (More about this..)
- There are not necessarily any objective truths - each human being creates his or her own truths, some of which may coincide with the beliefs - or truths - of others
- People believe what they want to believe - they do not believe in things - particularly metaphysical things - because of the inherent truth of these things, but because they find these things attractive to them in one way or another (more about this...)
- Human beings are essentially individual entities - we have no way of truly experiencing anything that happens to anyone else - since we all have our own unique points of view on anything , even if we duplicate one another's experiences, what each of us experiences will be unique.
