The Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church and adjacent cemetery are interwoven into the historical fabric of many families from Dallas and Lowndes counties. Because they played significant roles in both the spiritual and secular lives of the community's residents, memories of the church and cemetery were transmitted from generation to generation--even among the families who left Alabama's "Black Belt" long ago. Like the faded pieces of cloth lovingly stitched into our great-grandmothers' quilts, the church and cemetery serve to remind us of the faith and dedication--as well as the joys and sorrows--of our ancestors.
The remaining church records and the cemetery are valuable keys to understanding a rapidly vanishing past and for learning more about the individuals who lived in Pleasant Hill during the 19th Century. With that in mind, we have added a Family History section to the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church website. Please feel free to contribute additional information about Pleasant Hill and the families connected with the church.
