Thoughts on Love and Loving

On Holding Hands

There is something so intriguing, so personal and so full of hidden meanings and feelings, as the holding of hands with someone you care deeply about....a simple caress of a finger...the touch on a nail...the feel of a knuckle...all encapsulated in the mind... ..different ways...different meanings...are part of hand holding. A clutching grip vis-a-vis the gentle, soothing sliding of one hand across another...or the two handed covering of one hand in between, like a sandwhich..one hand touching another , face to face..the other covering the outside, touching, caressing every crevice, change in bone position...knuckle formation..nail texture...

Meanwhile the hand 'holding' and touching the inner hand feels the softness of the skin, the twirls of the skin as it tightens to entwine..fingers intermeshed with fingers..all transmitting messages so fast..with such meanings, memories...like flashes of lightening the messages pound the brain, demanding responses...and like a toiling computer, the brain 'outputs' action signals to the hand..to feel this, that..to move this way, that..to tighten..to turn...to touch..engendering even more data triggers to the brain..pushing it for more..faster responses.. ...and the brain responds...

and..

you look at the one you are holding hands with

and..

smile!

The Wedding

The appointed time had come.

The guests were all seated, chatting and smiling, as the ushers guided others to their seating places. The band with a lone singer started playing beautiful strains of music becoming to the scenery. The bride's mother, very obvious in her face shining with joy, was talking to the pastor.

And Frank was observing.....

Soon... the bridegroom arrived with his two friends..again the excitement, the pin needling happiness was so obvious..apparently all plans were going smoothly...the weather was gorgeous....all invitees were on time...the music and words sung were appropriate.."Wind beneath my wings"..."I needed you..and you were there.."....the bride's family all gathered around her mother..the groom's excitedly encouraging him...

And in a short space..a long white limo could be seen approaching....driving so elegantly slow, with a white flag embossed with a red heart from it's antenna..arriving to the place for the bride to emerge.

A heart stopping moment....then the door opened! Out stepped the bride..all glorious in the sun's rays..adorned in the whitest of white clothing..a single blood red heart emblazoned on one sleeve..she flashed a beautiful smile to all as the band struck up the wedding song..

The bride , head held high, eyes sparkling..took her fathers arm and walked with measured, careful steps...and all eyes were on her, for it was her moment! And now the words of life were being said.....

And Frank watched....

The happy couple stood surrounded by blue waters....the shhhs of gentle waves caressed their feet....the brides white spray of wedding attire lazily floating around....her tanned legs showing up beautifully against the snow white of her bikini, elegantly covered with a fine white adornment..

Yes...a wedding in the sea....

The guests were all seated on the beach, clad suitably for beach...the ushers were wearing swim suits with tuxedo jackets...the groom likewise had a lite blue tux and swim suit.. ..but the bride took all the gasps!!

Clad in a beautiful white bikini..tanned..long, dark hair flowing in the breeze...blue waters swirling around her feet...she was all a-smile, white teeth flashing in the sun...she was beautiful! She stopped many hearts for a second...

And the weather blessed them.....long streaks blazing thru' the sky as nite approached...tide was low, with long, lazy , blue waves......crystal clean beach...light evening breeze gently whipping at the waves and the bride's long hair..

And all was done with great joy..joyous well wishers....curious onlookers...preacher looking so out of place with bared legs , pants rolled up and formal upper clothing...the glint of smiles from the few surf fisherman...

.....and Frank watching....wondering...

"....some say love is a hunger..with an ever hungry need...it's the heart afraid of breaking...it's the dream afraid of waking...some say love is like a razor, cutting deep until it bleeds...some say love is the heart that lives like a ever flowering rose...flaming red with hues of ever changing beauty...but love is real and lives and it's the soul afraid of dying....without love!"

...and Frank had a tear well up..

..far away on the horizon a puff of white cloud skidded across the darkening blue sky..

..a sea bird swooped down into the ocean...and then sailed high into the sky..

....and the sun spun it's last gasp, giving way to a full moon, rising majestically across the ocean...

..and as the last guest left, a white bird flew down to the beach..screeching.
