Ok, the members of the Brunswick Spanish Branch Rock!!! There is no doubt about it. Only one other time in my life have I ever felt so much love from the members in such a small branch. The members there were fantastic. They would do anything possible to help us, and then some.
The members I met on my mission always reminded me of the parable of the Widow’s Two Mites. Now, I’m not saying that the members were dirt poor. But, like a lot of us (myself especially) they were struggling to make ends meet. Most of them had little or no family in the state. Like the widow in the parable, they weren’t rich. They didn’t have a materialistic lifestyle, but they did all they could to help. When they made the sacrifice to feed us and/or help us in any way, you could feel the love that accompanied the heart felt action. Ilsa was and Sylvia were two such members…
In case you couldn’t tell, this is a cropped picture. The back ground was kind of lame looking:) Anyways, Sylvia was cool. A very loving woman, just not one you messed with. She was pretty good at giving us guilt trips. But hey what are a few guild trips between friends?
Ilsa was/is awesome. She was one of the hardest working stake missionaries that I ever met in Jersey. She worked full time, went to night school, and then went out with the full-time missionaries anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week!!!! That’s what I call dedication. We were all excited when she started getting ready to serve a mission. In fact, she served in the same mission as a member from our ward!
Thank goodness they were never companions. Because Ilsa was one of the stake missionaries always on team-ups with us she knew Elder Baxter and I very well. She has some interesting stories that she could tell about me. Nothing bad, just embarrassing and stupid stories. Which ones? Well I guess you’ll just have to ask me about that one in person now won’t you?
