Ok, not all of our free time was spent in Philly. My second to last P-day in the field we went to the beach to watch the sunrise over the ocean. After all the sunrises in the east and sets in the west. I think we left our apartment around 5 in the morning even though we knew it would only take 20 minutes to get to the beach. The sun wasn’t supposed to rise until 6 or so, but the missionaries who tried to do the same thing last month failed. They left the house 10 min later than planned and the sun rose 10 minutes earlier than the news predicted. Because they waited for the last available P-day they never had the opportunity to do it again. Bummer huh? Well, I was VERY determined to watch the sunrise.
Well, we were all determined. After all, we didn’t know how many of us would be her the following month. We decided that the same pathetic thing would not happen to us. So, we left the house some where around 5 in the morning. You know what? It was well worth it, and that means a lot coming from someone who loves his sleep as much as I do.
We were on the beach early in the morning. We read our scriptures, played aerobie, had breakfast in a small mom and pops shop while we watched the locals fish, and played on the boardwalk when it opened. In case you are wondering, we were good boys and stayed out of the water. But, then again that isn’t saying much if you’ve ever seen the beaches in Jersey:)
