\It was Halloween, October 1999, when we headed north for a three-day weekend to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary in nearby St. Augustine. We'd been there before, on our 1st anniversary, but hadn't gotten any pictures of this great lighthouse. We made up for it this trip!

it's a long way up!We took the picture at the top of this page looking across the Intracoastal Waterway, standing on a spot south of the Bridge of Lions. After going across the water to the lighthouse, we took the pictures below as we stood in front of and off towards the side of the light, looking through the trees. The long picture on the extreme right of this page is from the parking lot next to the Visitor's Center.

We had to take a picture of this former keeper who we "met" on one of the landings as we climbed up the 219 stairs to the top. He looked a little green, and Darrell's shoes were glowing ... I wonder if it was the Halloween influence or just the flash from my camera?!?!? The other picture was taken as we neared the top, looking back down those 219 steps to the black and white tiled floor below.

I took a picture of the Atlantic Ocean from one of the windows on the way up, and then took a picture across the Intracoastal Waterway, looking back towards the historic town of St. Augustine, after we reached the top. Two great views, one looking east and the other looking west. For some wonderful night shots of this lighthouse, visit the Lighthouse Hunters St. Augustine pages.

After climbing back down we explored the gift shop and museum.
Come along with us and see what's inside or travel to the next light.
