"The reasonable man adapts to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. All progress therefore depends on the unreasonable man." - George Bernard Shaw, playwright, essayist, satirist, political activist, lecturer, novelist and philosopher

C O M M E N T A R Y
Please make a little time to read my friend Rosebud's insightful words.
"Less than fifteen percent of people do any original thinking on any subject. ... The greatest torture in the world for most people is to think." - Luther Burbank, horticulturist
"The important thing is not to stop questioning." - Albert Einstein, physicist and thinker!
So ... what is wrong with this reality? Did you know that the combined worth of the 500 richest men and women in the world exceeds that of the poorest 2 billion people on the planet? Please let me know what you think!
"Private charity can't be a foundation for the human right to an adequate standard of living because it is voluntary, unpredictable, unable to meet a national crisis, and contributors can cut charity off." - Sandy Cameron, from an unpublished letter, as quoted by Jean Swanson, author of 'Poor-Bashing: The Politics of Exclusion'

"The truth must be repeated again and again because error is constantly being preached around us not only by isolated individuals but by the majority! In the newspapers and encyclopedias, in the schools and universities, everywhere error is dominant, securely and comfortably ensconced in public opinion which is on its side." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, late 18th & early 19th century German author, journalist, critic, theatre manager, painter, statesman, educator, natural philosopher
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to teach him to hold in higher regard those who think alike than those who think differently." - Friedrich Nietzsche, 19th century German philosopher
In this light, ponder the frightening scenario depicted by the following quotations:
"It is interesting that the corporate think-tanks promote the idea that people on welfare have an obligation to work but don't talk about a corresponding obligation of the corporations to provide decent jobs or life-supporting wages. When companies don't meet their obligations to supply jobs, where workfare programs are in place, workfare workers are forced to displace ordinary workers at much lower wages. As a result, labour is cheapened for all workers at the lower end of the scale, and poverty increases." - Jean Swanson, author, past-president of the National Anti-Poverty Organization, Canada
"... the powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences." - Dr. Carroll Quigley, member of the Council on Foreign Relations and college mentor of President Clinton
"As a teenager, I heard John Kennedy's summons to citizenship. And then, as a student, I heard that call clarified by a professor I had named Carroll Quigley." - President Clinton, in his acceptance speech for the Democratic Party's nomination for president, July 16, 1992
So why is it important for us to be open to alternative thoughts, ideas and values?
And if we hold less conventional beliefs, then why is it equally or more important for us to act?
The following books and web sites begin to answer these questions (at least in part):
SUPPORT ALTERNATIVE THOUGHT! Canadian Dimension Magazine
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke, lawyer, writer and politician
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead, anthropologist
"War" is all around us!
The frightening scenario described below doesn't even require military involvement!
Louis Taylor (not his real name) hid his .357 Magnum so well, it took his son 6 years to find it. Louis Taylor kept his handgun unloaded in a locked case. The bullets were kept hidden in another part of the house. How did his six year old son, Ron, end up dead? Like every child there was nothing in his house he didn't know about. If you think you can keep your handgun out of the hands of your children ... please, think again. 10 CHILDREN ARE KILLED BY A HANDGUN EVERYDAY. |
And, it's also sad but true that:
More citizens die in handgun fire in just two days in the U.S. than in one year in Canada, Great Britain, Japan, Sweden, and Australia combined.

On a lighter note, after a lengthy absence, I've returned to THE HOLLYWOOD STOCK EXCHANGE! If you enjoy movies and want to have a bit of fun, then join me in trying to earn a few HSX Dollars (the exchange starts you off with $2M of them). See you there!
