Short Description
|
It
is the Italian main carrier, currently being privatised. It has just run
a major restructuring that brought the airline back ro profits, also thanks
to a state-aid, allowed by the Ec in exchange for a limit of expansion
till the year 2000.
It
owns a stock share in Alitalia Express,
Alitalia Team and Eurofly.
It
is gradually moving its operations to its High Competitive branch, Alitalia
Team, and is working high to enter the Klm alliance
with a competitive Hub system, dubbed Systema Alitalia, consisting in a
co-ordination of timetables between Milan's
new Malpensa
airport, Rome
Fiumicino and Klm's
hub at Amsterdam Schipol.
The
airline is said to be involved in the talks to form World Wings alliancE
with Northwest Airlines, Continental,
Air France
and Alitalia.
