Network
|
The
network is centred around three hubs in Newark, Houston
and Cleveland,
plus its pacific hub in Guam. It is mainly concentrated in the domestic
eastern market, with a good Transatlantic network and a great South American
one, for which it is the second biggest carrier after Aa.
It
should be soon integrated into the Northwest one.

Short Description
|
It
is the fifth Us airline, founded in 1937 as Varney Speed lines. It was
then purchased by Texas Air, with which it merged in 1982. In 1983 it filed
for banktuptcy Chapter 11 protection, from which it emerged in 1986.
After
that, the operations of People Express and New York Air were merged into
Continental's network, but the airline had to file again for Chapter 11,
from which it re-emerged in 1993.
During
the early '90s a stake has been acquired by Sas, with which it held a co-operation
agreement, and it bought a stake in Air Canada. Both operations haven't
been succesful due to the airline's poor finances, and have been stopped
with the airline selling its Air Canada stake and repurchasing the one
held by Sas.
Now
the airline's finances are extremely healthy, it flies to 125 domestic
and 67 international destinations, which become 400 including those served
by its partners.
It
is one of the promoters of the World Wings alliance between Continental,
Nwa, Klm , Alitalia
and Air
France.

Short Description

It
is the Us ninth largest airline, operating one of the youngest fleets in
the world. It was created in the early '80s following the Deregulation
act, grew up very fast but had to file for Chapter 11 protection, from
which it emerged in 1994. It is now in better shape and is revamping its
fleet, after launching a new image.
