Titled after the only song by Kansas that I remember being memorable:

"Dust in the Wind"

A Favorite of mine...in the words of Christina Rossetti

When I am dead, my dearest, Since no sad songs for me; Plant thou no roses at my head, Nor shady cypress tree: Be the green grass above me With showers and dewdrops wet; And if thou wilt, remember, And if thou wilt, forget. I shall not see the shadows, I shall not feel the rain; I shall not hear the nightingale Sing on, as if in pain; And dreaming through the twilight That doth not rise nor set, Haply I may remember, And Haply may forget.

Ms. Rossetti is not the only one who's spent part of her life contemplating her death.
And then again, what exactly IS death, that mystical illusion we see on the other side of the mirror?...
Stranger

I am a stranger in the world That surrounds me Not privy to the secrets The others share Nor the silent whispers Or meaningful looks… Ever the child Abandoned Ever the wheat fields Bare Ever peering in the window Of life Yet never quite Going inside. Sea, 9/01

Desert Islands

EVERY man is an island abandoned from each other, separated, by our differences (or indifference) from understanding the uniqueness we each share. You may TOUCH ME but you'll never BE me ...to know the many sides and faces that make me who I am. My reality is unlike any other's and you can never know what it's like to wear my shoes. So WHERE do you get off sitting in judgement, giving me those looks that say ALL I do is in foolishness and madness? Saying, [In so many words] that your choices and your lifestyles that are right for ME as they are for you. Sea, 9/01
Tarnished Silver

My life is tarnished like an old piece of silver caught in the whirlwind of a raging storm. My ship no longer sails, yet lies in the depths of the endless sea. My precious cargo, once considered riches, is scattered to the winds, tangled in the driftwood and carcasses of beluga whales who disappeared on the waves of long lost dreams and courses strayed. A shining pearl hidden in the inner recesses of a simple shell, like some crustacean a barnacle of life, clinging, searching, for a morstel of substinence in order to survive. I sing my brassy echoes to the wind, yet nobody hears. Sea, summer, 2001 Aching Love
I arm myself for the day protected by shades from all that may hurt me the harsh rays of the sun will shine on me as they have each day burning their cancer into my skin eating my flesh leaving it raw and scarred and yet i go on i have no choice but to though the hot coals tear through the soles of my shoes and the fiery winds burn through the very fabric of my existence I try to stand tall against the raging winds; shield my head from the sun and hide my heart from the aching pangs of love, once again..
