Terceira has an US air force base, so it is maybe the more developed island of the archipelago. The main town, Angra do Heroismo, is a world heritage site of Unesco and has an extraordinary architectural interest.

The summit of the Serra de Santa Barbara, the culminant point of the island, may be reached with a car and has an incredible circular view all over the island. The Cume hill, that you can easily reach with a car, also offers from its high grounds a beautiful view over a green and peaceful landscape.

At Algar do Carvao you can visit a volcanic cave and enter an old 100 mt deep caldeira in a surreal ambience with a lot of stalactites and stalagmites.

At Biscuitos in a lavic landscape of dry volcanic stones walls that encircle little fields of vineyards, is produced one of the best wines of Terceira, the Verdelho. Take a sea bath in the superb natural swimming pools of Biscuitos.
