A special
project of WCC is Project HAVEN (Hospital Assisted Crisis Intervention
for Women Survivors of a Violent Environment). As part of WCC's
effort to institutionalize gender sensitive services within the
government health care system, it operates and manages Project
HAVEN, a hospital-based crisis center and a joint project with
the East Avenue Medical Center. This project is for replication
nationwide in other hospitals to be known in the future as Women
and Children Crisis Care and Protection Unit. Training of hospital
staff, medical professionals and caregivers involved in this project
were undertaken by WCC. All other services of WCC are also available
to Project HAVEN Clients.

The National
Family Violence Prevention Program (NFVPP) is a nationwide two-year
campaign project coordinated by WCC in partnership with 17 non-government
organizations and government agencies in 17 sites in Luzon, Visayas
and Mindanao. The objective of NFVPP is to mobilize these communities
to address family violence prevention in a comprehensive and coordinated
manner utilizing resources and services of government agencies,
non-government organizations currently engaged in the prevention,
intervention and elimination of family violence. It therefore
seeks to eliminate family violence through concerted efforts to
raise public awareness, organizing and social mobilization, and
policy advocacy and monitoring.
Part of the
NFVPP is Voices of 2001. Breaking the Silence Campaign
marked the launching of this project across the nation last November
25, 1997. This entails the collection of 2001 stories of people's
experiences of family violence. The stories will be collated and
analyzed. The resulting data and information will be used in lobbying
for legislations criminalizing domestic violence, violence against
women (VAW) and all forms of family violence.
