These are the first things you should organise, along with the reception, after you've set a date, or consider a range of suitable dates when attempting to book these services. These get booked up months in advance. Have several venue choices ready if you can, it may make the ordeal easier. And have your cheque book ready because everything will require a deposit.

Registry Office weddings must be booked, and a fee usually paid in advance also. If you want to get married on a beach, in a park, in the shopping mall where you met, or any other public place, you must obtain permission from the managing authority. Beaches and parks are covered by shire councils and public buildings usually have a manager. This is so that the number of events and expected people on a given day at a given time does not exceed the physical capacity of the venue in terms of safety, car parking, and toilets to name a few. On any summer weekend you can play spot the bride at your local beauty spot ... So do not expect to be the only wedding in your chosen location.

Churches need to be booked too, and the prettier the church or better the location (for example, Perth's City Cathedrals) will determine how far ahead you must book. GET IN EARLY. Some churches may ask for deposits (perhaps disguised as “donations”) or may not marry you if you are not a member of their congregation. And if you are living out of wedlock, or pregnant, some clergy will also take umbrage. If you are tender hearted, beware of these pitfalls.

Celebrants for civil ceremonies can be found through your resources and must also be booked in advance, deposit required too. Ask around, recently married people may be able to tell you who to avoid, or recommend someone to you.
