Family!! The Jacksonville Gay Chorus recently celebrated its sixth anniversary. The chorus has accomplished much in the last six years, and still has many goals ahead of it. We are striving to be one of the best arts organizations in the North Florida area. In order to accomplish these goals it is important that we continue to grow, and we encourage YOU to get involved. The following information outlines all the things you need to know about joining the chorus including time commitment, dues, and audition information. Time Commitment The Chorus currently rehearses every Sunday afternoon from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Metropolitan Community Church during each rehearsal season. These seasons usually run from February through June and August through December. Additional sectional rehearsals and other special rehearsals may be held throughout the season. Minimum attendance guidelines must be met in order to sing at each season's concert. Financial Commitment A portion of our operational budget is maintained through monthly dues paid by individual Chorus members. The chorus has adopted a sliding scale for dues to compensate for members' individual budgets. Dues are currently $40.00 a concert period for singing members, and $10.00 a year for support members. Chorus members are also responsible for the purchase of their formal and informal concert attire. Formal performance attire consists of tuxedo pants, shirt, vest, and black dress shoes (a formal black dress may be substituted for women choosing not to wear the tuxedo). The chorus negotiates with local tuxedo vendors to secure the best possible price. Informal concert attire consists of a polo shirt or T-shirt with a JGC logo. These are available only through the chorus. Note: Please do not allow these financial commitments to discourage you from joining the chorus. If these commitments prove to be a hardship for any individual, other arrangements can be made. Auditions You do not need to be a seasoned performer or even need to read music to join the chorus! Each concert season the JGC holds open auditions (voice placements) for new singing members. If you can carry a tune, we want you! Our voice placements take place twice a year. Our next voice placements are scheduled for January 2001 at St. Luke's MCC Church. See Upcoming Events for specific times. Support Members What?!? You don't sing? That's OK! We still need you! The JGC is a busy organization with the need for help at rehearsals, productions, and a number of special projects throughout each season. Without the help of supporters like you, the JGC could not survive!!
