Three years ago I embarked on a journey to South East Asia. It was my second trip, and this time round I decided to stay away from the beaten track and venture out to the areas which aren't inundated with tourists. |

My
first destination was to the North East
of Thailand, to a town called Nong Kai, situated on the banks of the Mekhong
river. with Laos on the opposite side of the river. The highlight of Nong
Kai was a park full of enormous statues, a mixture of buddist and hindu
sculpture.
After a few days in NongKai, I travelled west along the river. Staying in some idyllic acommodation. One of the places was in the hut pictured on this page. Very peaceful and relaxing. |
After a week and a half I was yearning to get into the crystal clear ocean. So I tooka train down to Surat Thani and then a ferry over to Ko Phangang. I stayed on a small deserted beach for a week in a room with an amazing view. From there I went back to the mainland and then carried on south, down to thesouthernest part of Thailand. To Narathawat, which is still completely unspoilt by tourism, and the people are extremely friendly but curious. After a few days in Narathawat, I crossed the border into Malaysia. Spending a few days in Khota Bura. some of the highlights of Khota Bura are the food market and the palm lined beaches |
