John Gotti was born on October 27, 1940 and grew up in a extremely poor family. As a child Gotti had an uncontrollable temper and soon became known as a kid you didn’t want to cross. Gotti was once suspended from school for fracturing a fellow student’s skull in a fight. Gotti joined a street gang called the Fulton-Rockaway boys, he was recruited by his older brother Peter . John started out as a bookmaker and collector for one of the gang’s loan-shark. In the Spring of 1957, Gotti was arrested for disorderly conduct after he beat the hell out of a guy who refused to pay him. This willingness to use force brought Gotti to the attention of a soldier in
Anastasia’s family. Angelo Bruno began to give Gotti and his crew odd jobs and promised to introduce John to a capo in the family. In late 1960 Gotti met Victoria Diglorgio and soon after married her. In 1966 Gotti joined Carmine Fatico’s crew where he did various hijacking and burglary jobs. Gotti never found his niche when it came to burglary, in fact you could say he just wasn’t any good at it. So when he was released from jail he rejoined the crew and was put in charge of the gambling operations. In 1922, Fatico was indicted for loan-sharking. Fatico put Gotti in charge of the crew while he handled his legal problems. This meant that Gotti now reported to underboss
Aniello Dellacroce. The two men became good friends and even better money makers. Then Dellacroce encountered his own legal problems, allowing Gotti to gain more power and making him report to
Carlo Gambino himself. Gotti’s major step toward becoming a made member came when Gambino’s nephew was kidnapped then killed by a gang of Irish mobsters. Gambino put out a contract on the leader of the gang and put Gotti in charge of the hit. Gotti was more than happy to carry out the contract. So, when Gotti was released from jail he was initiated into La Cosa Nostra, making a official member of the Mafia he grew up respecting. John was then appointed Capo of the Bergin Hunt and Fish Club, which became the highest money earner in the family. Dellacroce died on December 2, leaving Gotti more power and no one to keep the peace between he and
Castellano. Gotti and Paul never got along, but the final straw came when Castellano broke up Gotti’s crew in a disciplinary act. It wasn’t long after that Gotti developed and executed a plan to kill Castellano. After Paul was killed Gotti took control of the family. He was now the boss. But along with the power came the problems. I believe most of you know the rest.
