Chicago Outfit

The Chicago mob was created by a man named Jim Colosimo. He put together a group of Italians and Sicilians to eliminate competition for his night spots. Until Johnny Torrio came along, their was little organization to this gang. Torrio brought with him a young New Yorker by the name of AL Capone. When Prohibition came along the Outfit became wealthy and extremely dangerous. Both Torrio and Capone began to establish themselves as brilliant businessmen. Then Hymie Weiss made a attempt to kill Torrio. The attempt failed but Torrio left, leaving Capone in command. Capone turned the outfit into a money making machine, removing all enemies along the way. Capone's only mistake was to not fully pay his taxes. When the IRS put him in jail (not eliot ness), Frank Nitti took over and proved to be very succesfull. Nitti controlled the Outfit in a quite yet powerful way. He avoided any public attention. Then he and other members of the outfit were indicted for extortion of a number of Hollywood studios. Instead of facing trial Frank Nitti shot himself in the head with a .38. Tony Accardo took over and the mob flourished. Under Tony the mob moved into Vegas and Reno. They inforced a street tax on every illegal act in the city of Chicago. Accordo was the boss for years until he decided to step down. He named Sam Giancana the new boss in 1957. Giancana was boss until 1966. He was put in jail for a year. When he came out the mob was tired of his high profile lifestyle, so they shot him eight times in his basement in 1975. The mob went on to have many different bosses and everyone of them was put in jail. Eventually Accordo was forced to return into action and eventually died in March 1991.
