Assistant Director Walter S Skinner is Mulder and Scully's supervisor. He is an ex-marine, and that often shows through in his attitude and behaviour in the X-Files. Although he has many meetings with the Cigarette Smoking Man, it is more likely that he is on Mulder and Scully's side rather than Canceman's. He seems to want Mulder to find what he has always being searching for, the truth. When he re-opens the X-Files after Agent Scully's abduction, he does it because it is what they fear most. When Mulder attempts to resign, Skinner will not accept it, and he goes on to tell Mulder about his out-of-body experience he had during his time in Vietnam. "I am afraid to look beyond that experience, Agent Mulder. You are not. Your resignation is unacceptable." Maybe he is searching for the truth as well?
