On 10 April 1881 when Nancy Selena/Celena (?) was 19, she married Harrison R. Hayes (2576) , son of Elap/Ellip Ellis Hayes (about 1824-about 1867) & Elizabeth (L. E.?) I'm conjecturing that this John E. the one married in Boaz, AL to Sara J. Haley. (cf. "Haleyville", AL).

Family records following from a photocopy of what appears to be "old" and "new" family Bibles. The copies were sent to Gerry Green by J. E. Buckelew of La Mesa, CA.

Inscription in Bible: Presented to (newer Bible) S.J. Buckelew, Somerton, Ariz.

1870 Henderson, TX, Census.

J.E. Buckelew of La Mesa, CA, also wrote that in 1900, the J. D. Collier family moved from Boaz, Marshall Co., AL, to Indian Territory, near what is now Cromwell (Seminole Co., OK). They convinced Mrs. Collier's brother, Dick Carnes to leave Boaz for I. T., and he convinced relatives and neighbors Jim Haley, Bill Haley, Van Arnold, W. I. Richards, Jack Carnes, Frank Price, N.J. Price, John Bearman, JOHN BUCKELEW & W.J. Mabry to do the same. By 1908 most of the families had land near Wetumka in what became known as the Mountain Grove Community.

In 1915 the families attempted a cooperative venture, apparently to sell an excess supply of peaches from their orchards. They charted a freight car to ship their peaches to St. Louis, but by the time the peaches arrived, "there was nothing but a rotten mess."

From an undocumented article entitled "The Alabama Families" by Mrs. Hazel Sheppard, publication unknown.

On 18 December 1884 when John Elijah was 21, he married Sarah Jane Haley, daughter of Alison Nelliison Haley & Mary J. Collier, in Boaz, AL. Born on 7 September 1867. Sarah Jane died in Arizona on 30 April 1945; she was 77.

They had the following children:
4477 i. James Walter Berry (1885-1957)
4478 ii. Mary Elizabeth Lou Emma Maime Pairlee (1888-)
4479 iii. Delia S. L. (1890-1954)
4480 iv. George P. A. (1892-1907)
4481 v. William C. Birdo (1895-1948)
4482 vi. Sarah S. Ella (1897-)
4483 vii. Queenie V. (Private)
4484 viii. Earnest Fred (1905-1966)

2616. Brunelto Buckalew. Born about 1866 in AL. Nickname: Nettie.

1870 Henderson, TX, Census.

1880 Marshall Co., AL, Census: in home of Solomon Bucklew as 14 years-old and named "Barnette."

Bingo, I think today. I went to the Guntersville Court house and looked at
all the marriage books. A marriage license was issued to Morgan Landers
and nettie Buckalew, 14th day of Nov 1882. They were married at S. P.
Buckelew's home. She would be 16 when she got married. I saw Joel M
Buckelew's marriage license, but did not make a copy. I have Mary A.
Buckelew's and Newton M. Isom's Marriage License, they were married at S.
P. B. home 9 Nov 1887. I have Martha L. Buckelew's and George W. Woodham's
Marriage license, date of marriage 11 Aug 1891. witness was J. E.
Buckelew. This leaves Nancy S. Female,& Manoah B. Female or Male (this
could be N. H. Buckelew), sure doesn't fit.

I think you've solves an irritating mystery. We've had a child for S.P. with the curious name variously spelled Brunetto, Brunelto, etc., born 1866. Thought she/he was male. Now, however, I'll bet you my Scottish laird's hat that this is the "Nettie" or "Burnettie" that you discovered. The age you cite above relates positivelly with this date of birth.

Do you agree?

Les

On 15 November 1882 when Brunelto was 16, she married Morgan Landers, in Marshall Co., AL.

Isom. Annie was born 23 July 1872, Brownlove, AL, died 18 Jan 1949,
Married Newton (Bud) Marion Isom 18 Dec 1887 in Horton AL. I will go look
at an old map to see where Brownlove, AL is. It has to be in the Horton
area. If you want their children, I can go back and get them, Bently
Isom's Grandfather was Lee Ernest Isom, one of Bud and Annie's children.

I am sending you a 5" by 7" picture of Annie (fair quality). I will drop
it in the mail tomorrow. You may want to show her picture also. I can't
get a slide in time for the conference.

I will approach the Woodham family for a picture of Loucretta

On 18 December 1887 when Annie May (Or Mary A./Ann ?) was 15, she married Newton Marion Isom, in Horton, AL. Born on 11 May 1866 in Hart Co., GA. Newton Marion died on 2 February 1945; he was 78. Buried in Hopewell Bapt. Ch. Cem., Arab, AL. Nickname: Bud.

They had one child:
4485 i. Lee Ernest

Elsewhere have 9 Nov 1887 date for marriage, but I think this was the date of application for the marriage license.

Initial information about the descendants of Martha Loucetta Buckelew was received from Donna (Woodham) Dyer.

On 13 August 1891 when Martha Loucetta was 16, she first married George Washington Woodham, son of Edward Woodham & Martha Benefield, in Marshall Co., AL. Born in February 1875 in Marshall Co., AL. George Washington died about 1905; he was 29. Buried in Oak Grove Cem., Horton, Marshall Co., AL. Richard L. Buckelew <rlbuckelew@pop.mindspring.com>: "My Father and Grandfather Marked
his (Solomon Parks Buckelew) grave at Pleasent Grove in 1960. I have several facts such as
mortgages (dated 1867 and cleared in 1881, Solomon P. Buckelew), Civilwar
record (he had only two cards,21 Aug 1862 and 13 Apr 1864), and two
articles in Guntersville Democrat on his death. They carried him as S. P.
Buckelew. My grandfather told me and showed me where his dad got sick at
the bottom of sand mountain (they had been to Gadsden in a wagon shopping).
They got to the bottom of the mountain and camped out that night. He
carried his dad home the next morning, where he died in a few days (March
1892), I will get the exact date in paper). My grandfather was 11 years
old and had to take care of his mother Elizabeth (Mabry) Buckelew. The
1860 census shows Solomon Parks Buckelew, Elizabeth, and his mother Mary
living in the same house. He (William Lambury Buckelew) stayed with his
mother till after he got married. I have a copy of his marriage. He was
only 18 and had to have her permission to get married. A note attached to
his marriage license has her name (Elizabeth) and a certification signed by
J. E. Buckelew, which is most probably Solomons son (John Elijah Buckelew
my grandfather's older brother). Elizabeth Buckelew also sold my
grandfather 40 acres of land in 1905 (I have copy of deed). "

"My grandfather, William Lambury Buckelew, also went to OK around 1900 which
would fit J. E. Buckelew's Comments. A Buckelew came through Boaz, AL
about 1954 and talked about five wagons (five Families?) went to OK and
like to have starved to death. They all started back to AL, But one wagon
broke down and that family stayed out there."

I visited grave on 21 Nov 1999 and saw names and dates on tombstone.

In 1898 when William Lambury was 17, he married Lula Etal Woodham. Born on 28 July 1882. Lula Etal died on 8 September 1967; she was 85. Buried in Oak Grove Meth. Ch. Cem, Marshall Co., AL.
