Regional Environmental Thrust
The major environmental thrust of the region
as spelled out in the regional development plan is
to ensure a healthy environment and a prosperous
economy for the current and future generations. Efforts
shall be geared towards environmentally responsive
management approach in resource use to improve
productive capacity while maintaining ecological
balance.
Regional Environmental Goals
The environmental management goals of the
region are as follows:

To maintain,develop and manage the existing natural
and renewable resources of the region;
-
To ensure the availability of these resources on
a sustainable basis through proper planning,
implementation, monitoring and evaluation of
environment and natural resource programs andprojects;
-
To generate employment and livelihood opportunities
through natural resource development and
-
utilization; and,
-
To foster closer and stronger coordination between
and among NGAs,NGOs, LGUs, and the private
individuals.
In support of the the above and in response
to the environmental challenge of the Program, the
LGSP-RPMO VI has set the following goal and objectives
for its Regional Environment Strategy and
Action Plan (RESAP):
RESAP Goal:
To empower focus LGUs to manage, conserve and
develop its environment and natural resources
within the framework of sustainable development
towards stability of its ecosystems and self-
sufficiency of its communities.
OBJECTIVES:
-
To advocate for sustainable development through
environmental management among local
government units, communities and other stakeholders;
-
To strengthen the technical capability of LGUs
and local resource partners in environmental
planning and management and in integrating environment
and sustainable development concerns intheir plans and programs;
-
To develop and mobilize multisectoral partnerships
and cooperation between LGUs, NGOs, NGAs
and communities in managing their environment
and natural ecosystems;
-
To strengthen LGU-based environmental support institutions/organizations
Regional Environmental Strategies
-
Advocacy program on environment and sustainable development
by organizing and mobilizing local
media as environmental advocates. Information
support will be provided in the form of press kits,press conferences, round
table discussions, organizational meetings and exposure trips.

Capability building in EPM with emphasis on EIA and
ecoprofiling for LGU planners, environment
officers/councils/task forces, environment committees
and other local resource partners.

Piloting of of community-based environmental management
systems such as:
coastal resource management systemupland resource
management systemsprotected areas management systemssolid waste management
systems

Strengthening of LGU-based environmental support
institutions through orientation and capability
