In this trip of an episode, Baloo goes to find a mythical land in order to prove to Rebecca that he is a "somebody". The people of Panda-La appear to be friendly, but when they follow Baloo back to Cape Suzette and show their dark side, all flaming heck breaks loose!
Okay, to start, let me say that whoever wrote this episode was on heavy drugs. I can just imagine this sweaty little writer locked in some closet somewhere smoking a doobie at three in the morning, thinking, '"Oh yeah man, oh yeah. I got it this time. Oh yeah. Chinese pandas in hot air balloon pagodas with heat seeking missiles. Oh yeah. that's it. Snort."
I will now proceed to rip the living crud out of this episode. Okay, first of all, what was with Beckers today? What a snotty little....I mean, her whole thing about how not everybody can be somebody. Rebecca should never, ever host a self-confidence seminar. She would be living in a van down by the river.
Baloo's reaction to Becky's materialistic snittyness was WAY overboard as well. He was ego-tripping to an almost Karnage-esque caliber. Oh there's logic for ya: "Well, since Becky thinks I can't do it, I better!"
Props to Kit for being the only character who made an ounce of sense in this episode. "You're someone to me," he says, and darn it Baloo, that's all that matters! Silly bear!
Despite the show's resounding, er, badness, Kit did have a great moment. When the Sea Duck was flying overhead, he yells "It's Baloo, it's Baloo, it's Ba- loo," and his voice cracks so much it could kill an overhead seagull. "It's Baloo-eee-aaa-ooo!"
Okay, I give in, art design was pretty rippin' in this one. There was a shot in there with a whole horde of planes attacking the balloons, shot from far off, that looked like something out of "Independence Day", and must have been horrific to animate. I could see each plane and missile moving about independently. Wow! That slapped on the half star, because the characters were acting stupid as all heck in this episode. Becky was being a brat. Baloo was being egotistical and self pitying. Wildcat could have seriously saved this ep had he been in it more. In fact, I think Wildcat wrote this episode.
Hmm, what else can I think of? Oh yeah. I liked the heat seeking missiles. Shere told me that he's gonna get him some of those. I also liked Won-Lo's daughter and his two imbecile sons. That daughter is going to kick their butts when she's older. "Mousy likes the warm." Hmmm. Cute. She'd make a good friend for Molly if her father wasn't, like, evil.
I feel this show was discriminatory toward the Chinese. If they took that "Yo quero Taco Bell" thing off the air, this episode shouldn't be shown either. They should have put that little chihuahua into this ep, I think. The show was so strange I wouldn't have noticed if they just flashed over to him real quick. Panda. Chihuahua. Panda. What is a logarithm?
As far as I'm concerned, Won-Lo should have just eaten everyone. That would have been cool. Then the crew of Higher for Higher could have wake up and found that it was all a dream. But then they'd have to take that off the air, too. (How many drug references can I put in one review? Let's count. One, two....)
