I was almost 50 when my husband and I moved to Missouri having been born and raised in the Central Valley of California. If you know the Central Valley of California you know that it just never snows there! Well it did 2 times during my life but only once that the snow stayed on the ground for more than a day.
Anyway, all my life I have loved to snow and went to the mountains every winter to have fun. My one big dream though was to have a "White Christmas", well in California that was what it was, JUST A DREAM. Just the thought of being able on Christmas morning to look out side and see all that White Snow covering everything and making it so pretty!
As time passed, I continued to dream of a White Christmas. My favorite Christmas movie is of course "White Christmas". Well, we moved to Missouri in December of 1992 and everyone out here said that it sometimes snowed in December but to not count on it snowing on Christmas this year.
I think that the first thing we bought when we got here was our Christmas tree and some lights, we had brought all my ornaments with us. We got everything unpacked and the tree up in the front window and decorated. Our view out the front window was so beautiful. You see we are in the Ozarks now and all you could see out the front or any window, is lots of trees, mostly Oak trees but some pine and cedar.
I was so excited to be here in the Ozarks, there were so many new things for me to see. The first new thing was a real live Red Cardinal. I have always loved there pictures but this was real and so much more beautiful than the pictures. There are many other things that I had never seen but this is my Christmas story so I will get back to that.
Well it is now Christmas eve and the weather man is saying that we will not have a white Christmas. It is supposed to rain and he says that we might get some "stuff" like rain, sleet, hail but no SNOW. Well, of course I am disappointed but I am thinking that well I have waited this long sometime it will snow for me:)
Well I wake up for some reason at about 4:00 a.m. and look out the window. Well it is too dark to see anything but there was something that just looked different. I opened the door and looked outside and it was all white!!!! It was snowing and had been for awhile because there was already more than an inch on the ground and it was still falling!!!!
My husband then woke up and could not find me so he finally looked outside and there he finds this Crazy Woman standing in the yard, in her bare feet and just a nightgown on, with her hands out in front of her catching the snow as it feel, crying like a baby. Now these tears were pure tears of JOY, because I got my wish of almost 50 years and had my FIRST White Christmas!!!!!
