This regiment was organized in July, 1861. Ordered to Louisville, Ky., in October 1861, and assigned to the Army of Ohio. It was engaged in the following marches, battles, skirmishes and sieges:

This regiment covered itself with laurels at the battle of Mission Ridge, It was known as the "Bloody Second".
