BooFest is a bi-annual, Halloween-themed weekend gathering and specialty show
for Silken Windhounds, owners, and admirers. For now, I am in the "admirer" category.
There were about 50 Silken Windhounds in attendance, plus a few Borzoi. This was my first
time attending BooFest. Wow! I had an amazing time! So many gorgeous dogs & friendly people. I took 9 rolls of photos! Silken Windhounds make exquisite photo subjects,
my only complaint is that since they're so friendly they usually come over to you
(out of frame) while you're trying to take their photo!
The event was held in the Northern California Bay Area.
Having been on the official Windhound list for about a year, it was great to meet many
of the other list members and put faces to the names! I have to admit it was a challenge to
try and remember all the people's names, dogs' names, and then which people & which
Windhounds belonged together! I'm certainly glad I'd gone to the show in Sacramento
so I had a slight head start on who everyone was.
It was interesting to see how different lines of Silkens are developing. Some are on
the smaller end of breed standard with finer bone structure, others are on the larger end
of the standard with more substance. There are also Silkens in-between, medium-size
with a moderate build. Having admired Borzoi for 20+ years, I prefer the more substantial Silkens. The clinic covering the breed standard & using attending Silkens
as examples was very interesting & informative!
