The Black Rock Ranch families have a long and proud history of
service in the Armed Forces. To honor them we have listed the wars involving the United States and the number of family members known to have served during these wars. Due to lack of exact family records the list may be incomplete.
Civil War (or) War Between the States
1861-1865
A tragic war fought in the United States that pitted neighbor against neighbor, brother against brother and friend against friend. Two known family members fought for the army of the Confederate States of America.
Spanish American War
1898
Somewhat short war fought in Cuba. One relative was in the Army.
World War I
1914-1918
Terrible and costly war fought in Europe. Best remembered for trench warfare, and the introduction of the use of aircraft in war. Three family members in service: 2 in Army, 1 in Air Corps.
World War II
1941-1945
Total world war fought in Europe and in the Pacific. Extensive use of mechanized war machines and aircraft. Ended shortly after the use of atomic bombs on Japan in 1945. Several family members served during thiswar: 3 in Army, 1 in Navy, 1 in Air Corps.
Korea
1950-1953
Three family members served during this war to block Communist
take-over of South Korea, including a resident of Black Rock Ranch, who served in the U.S. Air Force's Strategic Air Command. Two other family members served in the Navy.
Vietnam
1965-1973
Long and exhausting war fought in the jungles of Vietnam. Unpopular with some factions at home in the U.S., and the first time in history that returning American servicemen and women were not treated with honor and gratitude for serving their country.
We, however, are proud of our two relatives who served in the
Marines, and one who served in the Navy.
We are also proud of ALL the fine young men and women who served
their country during this unpopular war.
Persian Gulf War
1991
Brief, fast-moving war in Kuwait utilizing advanced technology
weapons that overwhelmed opponents. One family member served in the Navy.
Hopefully, there will be no future wars, but if there are, I feel
quite sure that members of the Black Rock family will be ready and willing to do their duty and defend their country.
