One of the nicest things about the web is getting to tell you about the things I love, and one of the biggest things is Kansas City.
Kansas City has the feeling of a small city, but the advantages and diversity of a large city. It is an unusual blend of history, art, natural beauty, and modern influences. The photo at the left is taken at the Barney Allis Plaza in downtown and shows that we take our heritage seriously but it can be blended in with progress. All in all it's a great place to live.
For those of you who don't know about the area, there are really three Kansas Citys. The city spans between Missouri and Kansas (Kansas City, MO is the one that is the heart of the city.) It also has two major rivers intersecting here. The Missouri River divides our city, therefore, we also have a North Kansas City (that's where I live.) We aren't just a cowtown anymore, as a matter of fact, we are also known as the Silicon Prairie. Technology has caught up with history.
In the summer time, Kansas City is a wonderful blend of quiet spaces and bustling city. We have more fountains than any other city in the country (or Rome, Italy for that matter) and the first original shopping center (The Plaza). When the city was laid out, it was very important to the founding fathers to design it to be like a city in a park. And as it's grown that design basis has continued to influence our city. Art deco has a very strong foothold here as the photo at the right indicates (my girls used to call this the bomp-pop building)
Kansas City came to the forefront at a time when people lived hard and played hard. And Kansas City has kept that philosophy. We have a very strong work ethic, but we do love to celebrate. Any weekend in the summer, you can choose between at least a dozen major festivals or activities. There is always a play or Shakespeare in the park, free concerts, craft and art fairs and lots of green spaces to enjoy.
If you're looking for good food and music, don't look any further. Blues and BBQ? We have the best of both right here.
And since Kansas City is one of my favorite spots on the earth, check back often for links to the highlights.
