Hanukkah

Since Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, I have decided to dedicate the lights of Hanukkah to people who have added light to my life. Each night will be dedicated to a different person or people.

November 29, 2002 -- The First Night of Hanukkah

menorah with one candle lit Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah light.

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who wrought miracles for our forefathers, in those days at this season.

Blessed are You, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who has kept us alive, sustained us and brought us to this season.

Playing in the background is "Ma Oz Tsur", traditionally sung after lighting the Hanukkah candles.

I dedicate the first light of Hanukkah to my husband, Avi. In the twelve and a half years that we have been married (and the fourteen years that we have been together), we have seen many good and bad times. Together, we faced the illness and death of loved ones and witnessed the birth of our children. Together, we purchased our first apartment and then lived in it with almost no furniture, until we could afford to buy some. Together, we celebrated first teeth, first steps and first words. Together we mourned the passing of Avi's father.

Marriage is not easy for anyone. We have learned to give and take. We have learned to share and to be supportive. Avi has been my rock in rough times. He has been a shoulder to cry on. He has also added laughter--lots and lots of laughter--to my life. He is my best friend.

Avi, even if I don't often say the words, I love you. I couldn't imagine life without you. You are truly "the light of my life".
