Hanukkah

Since Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, I have decided to dedicate the lights of Hanukkah to people who have added light to my life. Each night will be dedicated to a different person or people.

December 6, 2002 -- The Eighth Night of Hanukkah

menorah with eight candles lit Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah light.

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who wrought miracles for our forefathers, in those days at this season.

Playing in the background is "Ma Oz Tsur", traditionally sung after lighting the Hanukkah candles.

The eighth and final light of Hanukkah I dedicate to my grandparents, Belle and Jack Cooper. It is no wonder that all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren love them so much; two warmer and more loving people could not be found anywhere.

My grandmother is always in the kitchen, cooking and baking. No visit to her home is complete without a taste of her chopped liver or one of the many other dishes she prepares. And no one leaves without a month-long supply of her famous "M&M Cookies".

Until his memory began to fail him, my grandfather never neglected to acknowledge a birthday or anniversary of any one of his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren, nor did he ever forget a holiday. His cards and gifts would always arrive on time (and usually ahead of time). Sadly, he no longer recognizes all of his grandchildren, but his warmth and caring are branded in our hearts forever.

Grammy and Grampy Jack, it may seem at times that your love and thoughtfulness are taken for granted. However, I am sure that I speak for all of your grandchildren when I say that all that you have done and continue to do for us is greatly appreciated. You are the light at the center of our family--the warm and caring place that we can always come home to.
