Hanukkah

Since Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, I have decided to dedicate the lights of Hanukkah to people who have added light to my life. Each night will be dedicated to a different person or people.

December 1, 2002 -- The Third Night of Hanukkah

menorah with three candles lit Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah light.

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who wrought miracles for our forefathers, in those days at this season.

Playing in the background is "Ma Oz Tsur", traditionally sung after lighting the Hanukkah candles.

I dedicate the third light of Hanukkah to my son, Yohai. Several months before becoming pregnant with Yohai, I suffered a miscarriage. That was a sad time for me, but I can honestly say that I am not sorry it happened, for had it not, I wouldn't have Yohai.

Yohai was named after Avi's father, who passed away eight and a half months before he was born. He brought joy into our lives during our time of mourning. Yohai inherited his grandfather's kindness and loving nature. Sometimes we think that when Haim died, his spirit was "transferred" to our unborn baby.

Yohai is the most loving child I have ever met. He is always ready with a hug and a kiss and an "I love you, Mommy." Yohai has taught us that not all children are the same. Whereas his sister is tough and "thick-skinned", Yohai is sensitive and easily insulted. He has taught us the importance of patience and kind words.

Yohai, I admire your innocence, your warmth and your undying belief in the goodness of those around you. Your smile adds constant light to our lives.
