Hanukkah

Since Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, I have decided to dedicate the lights of Hanukkah to people who have added light to my life. Each night will be dedicated to a different person or people.

December 3, 2002 -- The Fifth Night of Hanukkah

menorah with five candles lit Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah light.

Blessed are You, O Lord, our God, King of the universe, who wrought miracles for our forefathers, in those days at this season.

Playing in the background is "Ma Oz Tsur", traditionally sung after lighting the Hanukkah candles.

I dedicate the fifth light of Hanukkah to my parents, Ann and Jerry Cooper. Though we have spent the last fourteen years separated by thousands of miles, I feel their love within me always. My parents taught me to be open-minded and to make my own decisions. They have always accepted and supported those decisions, even when they differed with me. Despite the distance between us, my parents continue to be a source of love, comfort and support. In addition, in spite of the fact that they have not been able to spend a lot of time with their grandchildren, they are wonderful grandparents.

Mommy and Daddy, no matter how far apart we are, you are always with me. I carry with me your love and the values that you instilled in me. You are the light that has allowed me to see all of the beautiful things in the world.
