COFFEE COUNTY WILLS

Below is a listing of some wills from Coffee County that I have collected and transcribed myself. Several of these are very old and are quite hard to read. I have spent countless hours in the probate office pouring over the old books and ledgers there. I have done my best to decipher them and have enjoyed doing it. Wills are one of my favorite instruments of research and they are extremely fascinating. They can give you such insight into the lives of your ancestors. Robert Ragans' site The Treasure Maps Newsletter has information on how to decipher old handwriting taken from a course taught by Sabina J. Murray.

If you have a copy of a will that you would like to share, please e-mail me at mmccook@alltel.net and I will post it for you. I will be going back to the courthouse soon and will be transcribing more.

*Please note*There are misspelled words throughout these wills. I have typed them as I found them
