John's parents, Enos and Elizabeth (McClang) McGarry, came to
Clinton county in 1856 and bought the farm John later farmed on.
John purchased the farm from his father in 1866. Besides his 300 acre
farm, he held various township offices through the years, and
he had been for a long time one of the
most useful members of the Board of Directors of the County Agricultural
Society, and of the Farmers Insurance Company of Clinton County.
John's farm was in the southeast corner of Washington Township on Section 35.
John went to California in 1863, but returned to Clinton Co. in 1866 to
the family farm.
