In 1857 \footnote{1857 in his obit and 50th wedding anniversary article,
1856 in the 1900 census.}
David immigrated to the US, settling in Truxton, Cortland Co., NY.
Six months later Fanny and their first 3 children came to the US.
In the spring of 1866 the family came to Iowa
and settled on a farm in Keokuk county, near North English,
joining his father and sisters in the area.
David moved into North English in June of 1906.
He united with the
Independent Church of Scotland but soon after coming to Iowa in 1866 he
united with the Christian church. He was an
Elder in the church of his choice for many years.
David Gilchrist's farm in Iowa was in the northeast corner
of Keokuk County, in English River Township (the West 1/2 of the NW
quarter of Section 12 --- 80 acres), less than a mile from his
father's farm.
