*AT SOMETIME IN THE 1850’S .....PROBABLY THE MID 1850’S
OLIVIA APPARENTLY DIED AND RUEBEN JR.REMARRIED
In the 1860 census Olivia no longer appears and so it is assumed
that he has remarried. In the
same census it also lists a boy
Lewis 12 years old and born about 1848...he is apparently the son of
Rueben’s 2nd wife.....as to exact date of their union,
there is no record that I have been able to
locate....
from here on is the names of household at the time of the 1860 census..
there is no way
to determine which,if any,
of the children in the house were born to him and his second wife or
if they were all born to him and Olivia.....so I will
list them and unless further info turns up we
may never know
Rueben Ray Jr.-----married 2nd Marriage---Lucinda __?__
California :Born about 1853 know nothing at this time
Arcillia: Born about 1855 know nothing at this time
Matilda: Born about 1857 know nothing at this time
Infant: Born about 1858 know nothing at this time
As to many of these children I will almost certainly obtain
more info as time goes on,it is more
due to having the time to check old records than
to not finding any info....I will check more as
time permits and fill in gaps as best that I can.
RUEBEN RAY JR.
WHAT I KNOW ABOUT HIS CHILDREN
WASHINGTON and his wife Martha Ann show up in the 1860
census of Rapides Parish with no
children listed in household.
His age is listed as 30 years old and Martha Ann’s
is listed as 20.
They were both listed
as born in La. and he was a farmer.
There has been some info that he died in the civil war based on
info of some man who served with
an ..."Adam" and Washington Ray but
these Rays were Pvts in Co. B 18th La. infantry(Adam Ray
record of service
is on his tombstone and is found in the U.S. and state offical rolls for La. as
being the same “Co. F. 2nd Battn.La Heavy Artillary” ).
There was an Adam and Washington both sick in New Iberia hospital
on the same date in 1862 and both of these enlisted the same
date and gave their status on Nov.
1862 as being in the same hospital sick.
i
I am certain that Washington was in the war
and based on picture that I have that his nephew's wife
(Minerva Fee Ray, daughter in law, of Adam
Ray) gave me and
the fact that other people remembered “Uncle Wash” there is
little doubt that he
survived the war.
ASIDE FROM THAT HE IS STILL ALIVE AND LIVING WITH MARTHA IN THE 1870 CENSUS.
When the picture(a tin type) was made he looked to be in later life with almost white hair.
MARY RAY married Aaron Fee and is listed in his house by name
and with their son Henry...she and
Aaron had quite a few
children ....the info on them will be listed with the Fee Genealogy. She
obtained a widows proof when Aaron died and filed for homestead
after Aaron died..some of the
property was sold and by 1903 there
is no proof that she was alive. She was listed in a census
( I
think 1900 as living in the house with
Issac “ Ike’ her son.
I have her washpot given to me by
Minerva Fee Ray the wife of John Ray
and the daughter of Mary and Aarons Fee’s son Rueben
Fee.
Yes , Minerva and John were cousins in several different
ways when they married.
ADAM married Martha Willis ...the daughter of Lemuel Willis and
the granddaughter of Rev.
Joseph Willis (the “Preacher”) they had several children.
“Ad” outlived her and married a second
time .
Adam and Martha are buried at Occupy # 1 Cemetary .
His second wife Mary L.? is buried at Union Hill Cemetary.
Minerva Fee Ray and her husband John lived with him for
a while after
they married and she was close to all of
the Ray families even after John’s death. Adam was in the
Civil War and served as a Private in Co. F 2nd Battilion La. Heavy Artillary.
He was listed on the
roll of Prisoner of War, and was paroled at Alex., La.
June 10, 1865....there are several
documents related to him on record..
Joseph married Martha Slaughter and was listed in the census
in Rapides Parish in 1870. He too
served in the Civil War and
survived the war...He recorded his mark and brand at the Rapides
Parish courthouse on Sept. 8, 1866...he may have
had one before this but courthouse was burned
in the Civil War and
most records prior to 1865 were destroyed.
Much of his other history and
descendents as well as a picture of he
and Martha were sent to me by a descendent of his Janet
G.
( whom I found on the internet).Small world isn’t it ...Thanks again Janet!!!!!!
Sally married Calvin Johnson and her descendents still remain
in this area. Sally and Calvin are
buried at Occupy # 1 Cemetary.
They had several children.
Seaborn “Uncle Seab” as he was known to the family lived to an
old age and I believe he is the
one buried at New Hope Cemetary
