The Willis Family
The earliest that I know for sure about this Willis family is in
North Carolina and starts with Agerton Willis...
Agerton had brothers, one by the name of Daniel,
and some others. Agerton had a son, born to a lady(a Cherokee Indian)who was a slave and worked for him.
His name was Joseph and from papers and records in North Carolina
he was named as principal heir in Agerton's will.
According to a letter from Agerton's brother Daniel to Gov. Caswell
Daniel was the executer and trustee of his brother's estate.
The letter was dated Oct.10,1777.He was asking for the Gov.
to please allow Joseph to inherit when he is of age(he was about 13) and free. This took some years to resolve
.In the meantime Joseph had grown up and obtained
his freedom( an act of the Legislature of N.C.freed him)and had become a Baptist minister.
Joseph went to Miss. and then to La. and established Baptist churches there
.These churches still exist. As to his ministry it has been written about in books and
and much info on that is fairly easily accessible.
He was very well educated and this must have been
due to the efforts of his father, who must have cared very much for him.
I will only attempt to cover the genealogy and direct lineage here. Joseph was married
several times and had quite a large number of children.
I have more info on them but will only go with the line of my children.

Daughters of Lemuel and Eveline Willis
LYDIA is the mother of MATILDA FEE
child in picture with her is still living. "Miss Hattie" is now 98 years old
MARTHA is the mother of JOHN RAY(see Ray page)

bar
MARTHA b...April 9,1835 married.....Adam RayRAY Page
Their son John Ray married Minerva Fee(see above)

LUCINDA(Lydia)born 1848...had a daughter Matilda by Richard StrotherJr.
They never married as he was killed shortly afterward.
She later married Henry O. Stanley and had several children by him.
Her Daughter Matilda married Rueben Fee (see above)
And Matilda and Rueben had a daughter Minerva Fee who married John Ray
In other words Minerva and John were second cousins by Martha and Lucinda(Lydia)
and also second cousins by Mary Ray(John's aunt) who married Aaron Fee
and had Rueben who was Minerva's father.(John Ray and Rueben Fee were 1st cousins)
This has been a most confusing effort for me as you can imagine. The only
thing that really saved me was the fact that so many of the children
lived to an old age and helped me alot.

STROTHER
This Strother line begins as most do with the arrival of William Strother
(William,"The Immigrant" as some call him)to Va.The Strother history prior to
can be found here Tim Kemp, so it
will not be included here..just the direct
linage from Va. on down.
The names of the unknowns are probably all available
and I will supply them as I get them

Dorothy's parents were Capt. Anthony and Alice Stafford Savage

John and Jane both were born in Va. and married in early 1760's in Va.
They went to Hancock Co. Ga.later in life and died there.
Jane's will dated in April,1830 and probated in May,1830.

circa 1787 in SC. There is no mention of wife but other children
are in household
As to his death date I am not certain
He had in the house with him sons Alexander,Lerory and Richard.
There was also a young woman named "Patsy"/Martha who is

I am not sure which one it is..and since I have no
DOD for Richard Jr. I am not sure..although I think that
most likely is Richard I..it is very hard to read
