Today was my first visit to my new OB! I am so excited to be receiving prenatal care from civilians instead of Army personnel! Not too much happened today...I got there and the nurses got my weight and blood pressure. I didn't ask what my blood pressure was, but I have lost several pounds since I found out I was pregnant and was weighed at the health clinic (where I had my pregnancy confirmed). I then gave a urine sample, and waited for the doctor to call me. 5 minutes later...it was my turn...and boy, was I nervous about getting a Pap! I hadn't even had my cervix or anything checked since I was 6 weeks postpartum with Cameron.
Before the doctor even examined me, he brought me into his office and asked me some questions about myself and my pregnancy with Cameron. I was very impressed that I at least got the chance to meet him and talk with him before he started my pelvic exam. Anyways, the pelvic went really well...he was really gentle, which I didn't expect from a male doctor, and it didn't hurt a bit...was barely even uncomfortable! But when he checked my cervix to make sure it was closed and all that good stuff, it was very uncomfortable. It always makes me feel like I have to use the restroom when they do those exams! Everything looked good, and then he felt my uterus to determine how far along I was (or, I should say, felt). He said I was only 10-12 weeks, according to my uterus size, even though according to my LMP, I was 13 weeks. He split it down the middle and said I was 11 weeks, and changed my due date to September 1. He said it was only a temporary due date, though, and he was sure it would change after each visit...he said we'd get a better idea of my true due date from my ultrasound. I know that my uterus is slow to grow though, from my pregnancy with Cameron (it was always 2 weeks behind), so I'm still betting that I'll deliver in August. He didn't check for the baby's heartbeat, much to my dismay, because for some reason they don't do that until the second appointment.
That was it for today's appointment! My next one is in 4 weeks, and I will get to hear the baby's heartbeat then as well as have all of my prenatal bloodwork done...fun fun!
