So, this is the AFTER part of my story..........
Okay, on with the story of how I met my wonderful girlfriend, Charmaine Song..............
I met Charmaine on the net - to be precise, I saw her name on friendship site in www.mol.com.my. Yes, this is one of those love on the net stories. :) I first wrote to Charmaine on 18 April 1997. She was one of several girls I was corresponding with at that time. Then, when she went on her Europe trip in August 1997, I felt a strange pang of loneliness. I couldn't understand it at that moment. And I just brushed it aside and tried to act normal. Well, I guess probably deep down inside, I knew what I was feeling and was trying to fortify my heart against disappointments. I've had more than my share of heart-breaks.
I finally met Charmaine in person on 21 January 1998. I flew down to Petaling Jaya (PJ) on a lucky draw ticket. Penang is about 4 hours' drive to PJ or about 40 minutes' flight. The first meeting was incredible. We just knew we love each other. I don't know how to explain it. We just know.
On my second trip to PJ, I met Sister Enid, my former Literature teacher. To my surprise, Sister Enid and Charmaine's Aunty Margaret are Sisters in the same order. What a small world. Fortunately, Sister Enid put in a few good words for me. Phew!
What drew me to Charm? Well, when I met her, she bonked me over the head and dragged me by my hair to her cave. ;) Hahahaha........ Maybe I was charmed by my Charm? ;) Seriously though, I would say her mind drew me to her. As we were writing to each other, I started to notice that our minds really clicked. I felt like I've known her all my life. I felt like I've finally found my long lost best friend. With the other girls, I felt like we were on different wave-lengths. But, with Charmaine, I could really understand her and she understands me.
Who is this Charmaine who seems to have conquered my heart like no other? Charmaine is a graduate from Melbourne, Australia. She is younger than me. How much younger? I'm not saying it here. Like me, she comes from a family of four. She's also the eldest sibling in her family. We share so many similarities. We like pasta and western food. We enjoy reading and poetry. We have some differences though. I dislike garlic but she likes it. I like manggo but she dislikes it.
We are now so close that she can even know what I'm thinking about. And playing tricks on her is extremely difficult now. She seems to know every move I'll be making before I do anything.
I really enjoy putting my arms around her. This is the first time I feel comfortable putting my arms around a lady.
This is the end of my journey. I need not search the world for the right one anymore. I've found her.
