Working years - Writech Enterprise

I moved on to a computer company to learn more about the computer industry. I was rather happy there. My bosses were great. But, I was beginning to get ideas of how I could run things differently, etc. The entreprenuer spirit was stirring. A few months later, the entreprenuer spirit woke up and took control.

I started providing writing services for organisations on 31 August 1996. Later on, people asked me about computer services and computer hardware. So, on 30 March 1997, Writech Enterprise (please go to our website at http://writech.8m.com) was born to provide Information Technology solutions as well as writing services. In fact, the name Writech has a very special significance. "W r" stand for writing; "i" stands for information and "t e c h" stand for technology.

Writech was set up to provide consumers with an honest alternative. I wanted to make sure the customer gets what he/she pays for. Writech's motto is "long-term relationship is good business". I believe in doing long-term business with my customers. I intend to serve my customers' children and grandchildren and so on. I intend to make Writech a company which provides services and supplies to generations of the same family.

Since the day the entreprenuer spirit bit me, I've been involved in the writing business, Information Technology business, Enrich (http://www.enrich.com) herbal remedies business, CNS medical coverage business and etc. And all my various business have been done with upmost care towards the welfare of my customers.

I started with one customer and now I have over a hundred customers in my customer base. And most of them were referrals from my existing customers.

So, what are the stuff Writech is involved in? Here they are:

Sale of computer and computer related hardware and software.

Repairing and servicing of computers and computer related hardware.

Jaring Service Outlet - providing internet services.

Virus cleaning, protection and consultancy services including selling of anti-virus software.

Webpage hosting, designing and maintenance.

Computer consultancy services.

Networking.

Writing of corporate newsletter, etc.

Selling of Enrich herbal supplements and products. The supplement and products are all made from natural or herbal sources. The good thing? They work!

Clinical Network Services (CNS) medical coverage. Selling medical coverage to individuals and corporations.

Starting a business from scratch is tough. There are lots of challenges to overcome - competitors trying to sabotage you, customers giving you bad debts, suppliers refusing to deal with you because you're new, etc. I even thought of quitting a few times. But, my girlfriend gave me the encouragement to go on. She even gave me a book called Dare To Fail by Billie Lim. During one of those dark times, I even emailed to Billie Lim. I kept going. People suggest that I go back to the employment line. Yes, life might be easier. You don't have to worry about where you next pay cheque is coming from. But, I kept going. Let's be realistic. I know that by the time Writech Enterprise becomes a conglomerate, I'll either be too old or dead to enjoy the fruits of my labour. So why do I do it? Besides, the entreprenuer spirit which spurred me on earlier, I have noble reasons for going on.

For my descendents

I do it for my future wife and descendents. I want to make sure that should my future wife requires it, she'll have a place to work at. Furthermore, when we have kids, I know one of us would have to send them to school or tuition, etc. Working for your own company means, you can take time-off to do all that without having your boss breathe down your neck.

The business can also be a good asset for the kids. Yes, leaving behind money or property is better than leaving behind a business. That's what my paternal grand-dad thought too. Then, his youngest son seized control of all his assets and cash inspite of protests from the other siblings and relatives. When that happens, the family breaks up. Now, my grand-dad is living like a pauper. So, I decided that leaving behind a business is a safer alternative. Besides, it will also provide employment for my kids. I think that's better than leaving behind cash or properties which could be easily stolen by a black sheep in the family. It will also provide a continuity in service to my loyal and long-term customers.

For others

Running my own business gives me an opportunity to help others. Have you ever experienced your first job interview where you are told that you can't get the job because you have no experience? You wonder to yourself, how are you going to get experience if no one gives you a chance. Well, I believe that a person should be given a chance to prove himself or herself. I do take in people who are fresh from school/college, etc. Have you ever experienced the humiliation of being rejected for a position because you don't have that piece of paper to say that you studied at some prestigious university? The thing is you've been doing that job for a while and know you can do it. Well, I believe such people should be given a chance with or without that paper qualification. One should get a position based on one's merit not what paper one has.

I also realise that there are a lot of less fortunate people out there. So, when Writech Enterprise becomes self-sufficient, I will set aside about 10% of the yearly profits into a separate account. I will use the money in the account to invest in good investments. When the account reaches RM3 million, I will setup a foundation to help the less fortunate people. I will start with the people in Malaysia, as the foundation grows bigger, the assistance will be spread out to people around the world.

Those are some of the reasons why I stick it out inspite of the hardships I experience. That's why I don't go back to working for people. So, those customers who cheat me by refusing to settle their bills are actually, doing a terrible deed - they are depriving me the resources to help the less fortunate. The same goes for my competitors who play dirty and try to destroy Writech. Well, they will have to answer for their sins eventually. I hope God will be mercifully to them then.
