My Alma Mater Days............
I started my primary schooling at St. Xavier's Primary in Penang. I continued my secondary schooling at St. Xavier's Institution in Penang. Well, St. Xavier's Primary and St. Xavier's Institution are actually, one and the same. All in, I spent 13 years of my life there. I have to admit much of who I am today came from the seeds planted during those days. The good years and the bad years were spent in that school. I was fortunate enough to have met the late Reverend Brother Director Casimir as my school principal during my secondary school years. Man! That guy was STRICT! He used to walk around with a very, very long and menacing cane hidden in his right sleeve. I'm not kidding. We used to call him The White Shadow. Well, he wore white and he had this uncanny ability to sneak up on us even though we had sentries posted at all four corners of the classroom. I still don't know how he managed to do that. By the time any of the sentries noticed anything, he was already striding into the classroom with the cane sliding out from his sleeves. Man! I had quite a few heartattacks those days. Not that I was a naughty boy. Hey, who's going to openly admit his naughty on the web anyway? ;)
I'll admit that I was mischevious though. Well, according to Chinese lunar calendar, I was born in the year of the Monkey. Personally, I don't put much in that. But, I notice that I love pulling tricks. And I love teasing people and laughing and joking. Anyway, I think my lower secondary school teacher, Mrs. Sim had quite a hard time keeping her eye on me. Hehehehe........... one year, I was seated by a window. It so happened that there was a balcony outside and pigeons tended to converge there for mating. To cut a long story short, I had quite an education to the exasperation of Mrs. Sim. Well, I found the pigeons making out more interesting than the accounts lessons.
Form Six, my 12th and 13th years in school were the great times. After spending 11 years with just boys, my Form Six years were very errr..... exciting with all the girls there. I also learnt a very valuable lesson there. Looks could be deceiving. A beautiful flower may be a venus flying trap waiting for it's prey. Form Six years were the years I discovered Shakespeare. We had two teachers for Literature, the fearsome Rev. Bro. and a kind nun called Sister Enid. Both of them had such inspiration to teach. Previously, I feared the Rev. Bro. But, as I studied in his class, I grew to respect him more than he ever knew. But, I was also always ready to pull a piece of wool over his eyes. Hehehehe....... it's the excitement of outsmarting him which spurred me on. At that time, I was the news editor of the school paper and I actually sent the paper to the press without his approval. And some of the articles I approved for printing were...... shall I say, a little controversial. The next day was a different story. I've never seen a human volcano exploded before that day. First his face started turning red and then, KABOOM! I've never sweat as much before that day either. But, it was fun. :) While, Rev. Bro. was sort of a respected nemesis of mine, Sister Enid was my confidante, my trusted friend. No matter what, Rev. Bro Casimir had my profound respect. Unfortunately, I just had to rebel against authority. I guess all teens go through that in their lives.
College Years
After leaving school, I went to Perkim-Goon. I have no idea why I took up Computer Science there. I just dislike figures so much. By then, my youthful fires had somewhat simmered and my college years were almost uneventful. I actually studied rather hard. Well, when your results are posted on the notice board, you tend to work hard. Having the whole college know you're at the bottom of the class can be rather embarrassing for a guy. I didn't start at the bottom thankfully. But, I started at the middle. That wasn't too pleasing for me either. So, I studied and studied and studied. I did move upwards.
