to Erik's K-9 Pages!!!

My name is Erik Freese and I am a federal law enforcement officer and narcotics detector K-9 handler with the U.S. Coast Guard. I have been in the Coast Guard for four years and am currently stationed at USCG Station Sandy Hook. I am lucky to be stationed at Sandy Hook because we the only K-9 narcotics unit in the First District. Little is known about the Coast Guard and the amount of law enforcement authority and jurisdiction we have and I hope this website will open your eyes to see that the U.S. Coast Guard is the premier maritime law enforcement agency.

Sandy Hook Narcotics K-9 Unit

How was the Narcotics Unit created?

Officer Erik Freese/ K-9 Hanna

XO Rusty Merritt/ K-9 Buddy

Officer Matthew Balch / K-9 Maggie

Officer Brian Doel/ K-9 Jake

The incredible thing about having a narcotics unit at the Station is the opportunity to work along side other state, local and federal law enforcement agencies. Not only do we search vessels on the high seas, we assist other agencies and their drug operations. Our unit has searched houses on drug raids, woods for the U.S. Park Service, and cars for numerous departments to name a few. Our incomparable training and Nationally recognized trainers Lt. Mark Weber (Ret.) and Officer Ronnie Edwards have instilled their diverse years of experience into our K-9 Unit. With our constant training schedule and increasing experience, our K-9 Unit is one of the best in the country thanks to our trainers and their assistants.
