Lesson 3 - Making a Simple Background Tile

The tiled background on this page was made, in around 1 minute, using PSP.4.0.

1.  Load PSP 4.0 and Go to "File" in the top left hand corner of the screen

2. Click on "New Image"

3. Choose Width  150 Pixels
               Height 150 Pixels

Resolution 72 - pixels per inch
    Background White
    16.7 million colours.

You should now have an image looking like the one below

Blank White Tile in PSP 4.0

4. Click on "Image" at the top of the program bar.
Choose "Noise" from the drop down menu.

5.Add % 50 - Random
  Click O.K.
Your image should now look like the one below

White Tile with noise at 50% added in PSP 4.0

6. From the menu bar at the top of the program window, choose "File"
From drop down menu " Save Copy As" - Choose JPEG - then in box that appears, choose
"options" - set to- Standard Encoding Compression 15
and then save your new image to the folder of your choice, naming it whatever you prefer.

Now experiment yourself, with some of the free filters that are included in PSP 4.0,
using the basic method outlined above, but choose a different option to "Noise". Bear
in mind, that there must be no "tell-tale" join marks or elaborate patterns. These will
show on your page when the image is repeated many hundreds of times. The idea is to
    make any tile "seamless"
