Growing Coneflower
 growing coneflower
Purple coneflowers are hardy and easy to grow. The stalks are two to three feet tall and have light purple flowers with red brown centers that are cone shaped. The plants are drought resistant and enjoy full sun to very light shade. Any soil will do as long as it doesn't gets soggy.

They bloom in late summer or early fall, and bloom for three weeks. The leaves are coarse, hairy, and dark green. Coneflowers that have yellow or white blooms are available.

New coneflowers are usually started from dividing clumps in the spring and fall. Clumps that are overcrowded should be divided every three years. New plants can be found at garden centers in the spring. Coneflower can also be started from seeds.

Coneflowers are the source of the herbal rememedy echinacea.
