going the distance

June-July 1999

Ouch!

I'm finally not slow. I even won a race (see Race News if you care). The weather has been great and I've been doing tons of riding in the Sierras, Santa Cruz, Sonoma County, Cow Mountain, and Marin. As I write this, I'm nursing exceedingly sore and bruised ribs due to a seismic event I precipitated. I managed to overlook the chain gate stretched across one of my local trails (even though i've stepped over it or ridden around it a dozen or more times), and I launched into the air. Shortly thereafter I collided with the earth harder than i have ever done before. It was quite a while before I could even breath, and I was fearful that I had done serious damage. I've barely been able to get out of bed without excruciating pain, but it appears that by the weekend i'll be able to ride enough to race the 24 hrs of Laguna Seca, which is good because I've already paid my entry fee. I can't think of anything to rant about right now, so i'll probably end up writing up the 24 hr event instead.
