....nothing is WORSE than Shimadzu's negative reputation in the analytical instrumentation arena!

Two thousand and four (2004) ushers in the seventh (7th) anniversary of the Shimadzu Consumer Alerts homepage.... who would have thought that we'd still be around? And NO, we're not going anywhere.... three hundred thousand (eg. 300,000) page views in 7 years should convince everyone of that!  Shimadzu's own IP addresses (208.212.50.* and smzk075.shimadzu.co.jp from Shimadzu Scientific Instruments, Columbia, MD, USA and Shimadzu Corporation, Kyoto, Japan, respectively) continue to show up on our website visitor logs. New this year is the Referrer Report which highlights the top terms visitors entered in a search engine that directed them to this homepage. Top search terms included: UV-Vis, HPLC, GC/MS, Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, Agilent, Waters, Perkin-Elmer and Shimadzu.

In reviewing the individual page view statistics generated by website visitors to this site over the past year, some interesting trends continue to unfold. The Top 10 Most Visited Links at the www.bigfoot.com/~shimadzu-sux domain (in decreasing order) were: 1) Manufacturer's Showcase of Quality Analytical Instrumentation Vendors, 2) The Japanese Rape of Nanking, 3) Shimadzu's Inferior UV-1601 Offering, 4) Shimadzu Regional Manager Terry Adams TELL ALL Memo, 5)  Shimadzu Parts & Service Alternaties, 6) Shimadzu Sex, Lies and Cover-Ups, 7) Shimadzu RF-xxxx Junk, 8) The Horrors of Using a Shimadzu GC/MS, 9) The Foreign Language Translator, and 10) VWR Drops Shimadzu UV-1201 Spectrophotometer. What is truly amazing after all this time is the resiliency of Terry Adams' TELL ALL memo. Surely, Shimadzu management MUST be DAMN proud of Mr. Adams ability to express himself regarding Shimadzu's $hitty reputation and the $hitty products it produces!

For nearly six years, we have been soliciting input from our website visitors telling us why and which scientific equipment they won't be buying from Shimadzu. As of 31 December 2003, we have received input from more than 750 prospective customers who have stated unequivocally that they won't be buying certain Shimadzu instrumentation. And for the 11th consecutive year, Shimadzu's corporate net sales and/or income has NOT surpassed the figures reported back in 1992. Conservative estimates place the loss of sales to Shimadzu (thanks to this website and the input from >750 prospective customers as of 30 November 2002) at over $34.7 million US dollars.... can Shimadzu say $40 million??? Dear Shimadzu: What do you think of our "divide and conquer" theme.... we like it A LOT!

Shimadzu's customer support and service has NEVER been anything to write home about.... and one needs to look NO further than Terry Adams Tell ALL memo for direct evidence of that! Interestingly enough, this very topic was the subject of an article published in the January 2004 issue of LCGC magazine entitled "The Value of Quality Customer Support and Service" based upon a sales & marketing report conducted by Strategic Directions International, Inc. As  noted in the article, "support and service is an integral part of a company's reputation. Almost 90% of the SDi survey respondents reported that a purchase decision was influenced by the positive reputation of a vendor. Conversely, 80% of respondents claimed that a purchase decision was influenced by the negative reputation of a vendor. Those results suggest that profitability is indeed linked to quality support and service." Conversely, on the profit and loss side, with Shimadzu reporting a net loss of $61,038,000 US dollars for the year which ended March 31, 2002 and a net loss of $85,315,000 US dollars for the year that ended March 2001, it would be a "NO BRAINER" to conclude that Shimadzu's customer support and service SUCKS (the BIG one)! Want to go with a LOSER.... choose Shimadzu!

During 2004, we will watch AGAIN from the sidelines to see if Shimadzu can snag any awards (or even an honorable mention) at Pittcon '04.... NOT gonna happen! The outdated technologies (including those incendiary devices) peddled by Shimadzu should help to seal their fate once again even before the voting begins! Think about it.... what cutting-edge innovations is Shimadzu known for? Can you mention even one product? We will continue our quest of bringing new stories, periodic updates along with late-breaking disparaging news about Shimadzu to light. We thank our website visitors, many of whom who sit on the sidelines as horrified onlookers to an automobile pile-up.... is Shimadzu naive enough to think that customers will buy their $hitty products after reading thru this homepage? We are grateful to those who submit news tips, ideas and story suggestions such that we are not starved for content. Finally, we'll thank [again] the sales people working for the competition who continue to share some of the fruits of their labor in the form of sales dollars they took from Shimadzu due to the persistant presence of this homepage on the world wide web. Dear Shimadzu: Our network of custodians will insure that the Shimadzu Consumer Alerts homepage will not vanish from the internet any time soon!

n.b. It's been observed that if you throw enough $hit-madzu up on the wall.... some of it is bound to stick. More and more is clinging.... hence, the slinging will continue with glee!

n.b. Something to ponder: What do we have to gain by stating untruths and falsehoods.... absolutely nothing! Now what does Shimadzu have to gain by using treachery and deceit? Answer: YOUR business (which translates into dollars). Who has a bigger motivation to resort to the intentional use of lies, denials and cover-ups.... us or them??? And we put our money where our mouth is.... did Shimadzu reciprocate? Can they reciprocate???

BTW: Please note that no Shimadzu Corporation figurehead has ever written us at any time to question the veracity of the information presented at: http://www.bigfoot.com/~shimadzu-sux. It's something that they don't want to admit but our facts (and opinions) are all in order!
