Like the other SEED programs, the Michigan SEED programs promote community involvement and celebrate student achievements. In particular, the Detroit program sends out a regular community newsletter and holds an annual Gala, which last year attracted thousands of students, parents, family and community members. Detroit Project SEED also operates two summer programs, one for middle school students and one for high school students, that provide alumni outreach to former elementary grade Project SEED students. The Detroit program keeps in touch with former students through alumni newsletters and surveys that ask students about their current activities and how SEED has impacted their lives. Student alumni respond with comments such as the following:
"The program made me feel proud about myself and that I could do anything I set my mind to." "Having studied algebra at such an early age helped me learn my regular math courses quicker than most of my fellow students." "It helped me with my fear of math and now I enjoy it and want to have a job that applies math regularly."This success in Detroit and Pontiac has challenged SEED to meet increasing demand for its services while continuing to deliver educational quality.
