2) Genesis

The action takes place about a week after the end of Episode 1:

Greg arrives back from Holland in his firm's helicopter. The situation on the continent is as bad as it is in Britain and he returns to find his wife dead (although he doesn't seem very upset about this!).

The near misses continue as Abby fails to attract Greg's attention when he flies over her, and Jen sees the smoke from Abby's campfire but arrives after Abby has gone.

Greg gets flagged down by a posh young woman (Anne Tranter) whose companion (Vic Thatcher) has had an accident. They were making camp in a quarry, using a tractor to move stuff around when it overturned and trapped Vic's leg. Greg helps free Vic and attempts to reset his broken leg but fears that Vic will be crippled for the rest of his life.

Anne has a plan to stockpile food and goods in the quarry, and attempt to regain her former affluent lifestyle by 'employing' survivors to work for her in return for essential supplies. Greg is not impressed!

The Welshman from Episode 1 (Tom Price) re-appears. He takes a Rolls Royce from a car showroom and raids a clothes shop, taking some very loud suits! Jen meets him again, but he still wants nothing to do with her. He's convinced that the Americans will be over to sort things out very soon.

Abby comes across a settlement of men in a large house. Their leader is an ex-Union president, Arthur Wormley, who was close to the government when the state of emergency was declared. He has decided to take on responsibility for law & order, and to control food supplies under the martial law imposed at that time.

He is kind to Abby, but his house comes under attack from locals resentful of his taking control. Their leader is captured, and Abby witnesses Wormley sentence him to death under the powers of martial law. Abby leaves immediately!

Meanwhile Greg decides to leave Anne and Vic - he says he'll return with some drugs for Vic, but won't stay with them after that. Anne is very upset! Once Greg is gone, she decides to leave herself, as Vic is of no use to her anymore...

Jen and Greg meet in the town as Greg raids a chemist shop for drugs. They drive back to the quarry but Anne meets them at the entrance. She tells them that Vic is dead. Greg reluctantly lets her join them, and drives off, unknowingly leaving the crippled Vic to fend for himself.

They bed down in a barn for the night, but Jen can't sleep. She spots a fire on the horizon. She and Greg set out for it immediately (Anne can't be bothered). By dawn they reach the fire, outside a church. Abby comes out to greet them - she'd made the fire in the hope of attracting people. The big three are together at last!
